    The Kate Spade Collab

This has been an amazing few weeks and I’m just now beginning to catch my breath. We launched a bicycle and bag collaboration with Kate Spade New York this month. It’s been almost a year in the works so it’s really exciting to see it all come together.

In the months after we opened our shop the folks at Kate Spade called to see if we would be interested in working with them to develop a bike. Our mission in opening Adeline Adeline has been to get more people on bikes and specifically to reach out to a segment of the population that we felt had been ignored by the traditional bike industry - namely women. To be able to work with a brand like Kate Spade with such a huge reach seemed like an incredible opportunity to introduce people to city bikes.

We looked at a number of different bike options, but decided on Abici because while it has a retro feel it still feels modern. You could easily imagine a Kate Spade girl cruising around town on her green Abici. I won’t bore you with the production details. Suffice it to say the bike was actually produced in Italy and shipped to New York ON TIME which was my primary goal. seriously.

As we got closer to launching the bike we discussed different ways to promote the bicycle. When they suggested doing a video I got really excited. As you may know, I spent my pre-bike life doing design and motion graphics. Before I opened the store I had visions of creating lots of content for the store including videos, but the sad reality is that I never seem to have enough time to get it done. So I loved the idea of creating a bike video.

Kate Spade recruited Evan Savitt to shoot the video. He had a great vision for the film inspired by classic French cinema. I was happy to be a spectator in the process and let Evan do his thing. Greta from GretaGuide.com starred in the production. What you can’t see is that it was probably 40 degrees out when we shot it. She was a total trooper and smiled through the whole process!

    Two man crew.

I love this picture - a guy in a classic car drove by right when we were shooting Greta. There was this great moment when they were checking each other out.

    Chatting with the cops…

In order to get the shots of Greta’s face while she was riding they rigged up a cargo bike (thanks George Bliss!) to hold the camera guys. Good thing Greta’s in fantastic shape.

Last, but not least, Rocious. Possibly the cutest dog ever. I was really close to stealing her and taking her home in my handbag. haha.
